چکیده

In this paper we propose and test a contracting mechanism, Multi-Contract Cost Sharing (MCCS), for use in the management of a sequence of projects. The mechanism is intended for situations where (1) the contractor knows more about the true costs of various projects than does the contracting agency (adverse selection), and (2) unobservable effort on the part of the contractor may lead to cost reductions (moral hazard). The proposed process is evaluated in an experimental environment that includes the essential economic features of the NASA process for the acquisition of Space Science Strategic missions. The environment is complex and the optimal mechanism is unknown. The design of the MCCS mechanism is based on the optimal contract for Electronic Supplementary Material Supplementary material is available in the online version of this article at http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10683-006-9137-x. After advent of Islam especially through and after the reign of Abbasid caliphs; interest of scientists and engineers wasdrawn towards the” mechanical or ingenious devices”. The wise jar was originally designed by Ahmad ibnMüsä, thefamous Iranian scientist who lived in the 5th century A.H.(9th A.D). It consists of a jar with a mechanically intelligentmechanism inside, which is capable of separa...

Experimental Investigation of the Effects of Air Injectionand Injection Timingin a Natural Aspirated DI Diesel Engine

In this experimental study, the effect of creating an air jet inside the combustion chamber by establishing an air-cell inside of the piston body at different injection timings in a DI diesel engine has been studied at 2000 rpm and full load operation. The performed tests include studying the Soot and NOx emissions, combustion and performance parameters. The obtained experimental results show t...

An automaton group: a computational case study

We introduce a two generated weakly branch contracting automaton group $G$ which is generated by a two state automaton on a three letter alphabet. Using its branch structure and the finiteness nature of a sequence of its factor groups we compute the order of some of these factors. Furthermore some algebraic properties of $G$ are detected .

An investigation of tensile strength of Ti6Al4V titanium screw inside femur bone using finite element and experimental tests

The geometric optimization of orthopedic screws can considerably increase their orthopedic efficiency. Due to the high geometric parameters of orthopedic screws, a finite element simulation is an effective tool for analyzing and forecasting the effect of the parameters on the load-bearing capacity of different types of screws and bones. Thus, in the present study, the tensile strength of a typi...

A Model for Sharing the Costs of Uncontrollable Risks among Contracting Parties

The allocation of risks among the contracting parties in a contract is an important decision affecting the project success. Some risks in a project are uncontrollable; these are imposed to a project by external factors. Since contracting parties can neither control nor affect the occurrence of such risks, their allocation to a party would be inequitable. Therefore the cost overrun related to un...
